Back Story:
I have been waiting for this one! Whether you knew her first as Hannah or Miley, Miley Cyrus played a huge role as a pop star through the mid-late 2000s on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana. The star is known for her music and celebrity family, as she is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Her big break started on Disney, as Hannah Montana ran from 2006-2011, consisting of four seasons. Throughout this time, Miley (and Hannah) had released several albums and achieved a great amount of success. I wanted to focus on the 2010s for Miley, specifically because it was the era when she left Disney and pursued an entirely different image than she had held before.

Cyrus continued on with a final season of Hannah Montana following the 2009 release of Hannah Montana: The Movie. In 2010, Cyrus branched away from Hannah, leading in The Last Song, alongside her boyfriend turned husband Liam Hemsworth (2018). Cyrus’ image was completely altered when she released her album Can’t Be Tamed. The singer took on a darker, more mature image, completely different from her squeaky clean Disney image.
I will never forget the first time I saw the music video for the album's single "Can't Be Tamed", as Miley took on a more harsh and darker role as an artist. She even said hell! With the reactions of my friends and I, you would've thought the world was ending...
While Liam and Miley have (and continue to be) off and on, the two had split by 2013 as Cyrus’ next phase of short hair and swinging on a wrecking ball commenced. Following some acting in movies outside of Disney, Miley went on to release her album Bangerz, which took her edge to an entirely new level as she reinvented her image. This Miley phase always reminds me of her twerking and performance with Robin Thicke.
Her love for marijuana was apparent to the public and her music took on more of a hip-hop vibe in comparison to her past pop. Miley toured, went vegan and showed her support for the LGBTQI+ community, according to Honey. Her next album went on to release in 2015, titled Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. in 201
6, she and Liam had rekindled their relationship and were engaged in 2016, leading to the Malibu Miley phase in 2017.
Younger Now was released in 2017, featuring the single “Malibu”. Miley Cyrus
was back to a longer length of hair and had more of a beachy and earthy vibe. Miley and Liam married in 2018 but split in 2019. Miley continues to make music and constantly stays outside of the box, evolving and growing as an artist. It was very interesting to compare and contrast Miley
for the 2010s from start to finish.
I think that Cyrus has one of the biggest evolutions over the span of a decade!
